'The Gown' is the independent student newspaper at Queen's University. The paper, founded in 1955, is run voluntarily by students and funded entirely by advertising without University or Students' Union assistance.
From terrorism to teletubbies, prostitution parties to political protests, 'The Gown' has reported it all, providing a colourful account of life within the University and within Northern Ireland.
Kevin Kelly - your e mail which was sent around to all the geography students was very interesting, you stated that it had been a long time since a geography student had been elected. Is Ms Simpson not a geography student?
Q: WHY has the law society taken so many seats? They are useless!
V.surprised Andrew Gordon didn't get the Campaigns and Communications post. While I get the impression he wouldn't be the most confident speaker, he knows his way round a computer, and was the best candidate for the job.
laura hawthorne aside, they're all a pack of complete losers. none had the backbone to present views or opinions different to the others - eg "love music hate racism" - who doesn't??
"laura hawthorne aside, they're all a pack of complete losers. none had the backbone to present views or opinions different to the others - eg "love music hate racism" - who doesn't??"
Now what wrong with a wee bit 'o' mild racism, it's all a bit a good fun and no-one gets hurt sure.
For a start, i disagree. But interesting. The 6 others have, shall we say "giveaway" surnames. Co-incidence that you rule out Laura and broadstroke the others? I think not...
I'll agree with all above about the wasters elected, but you don't have ground to stand on when it comes to Hawthorne. I've talked to her a few times at the Late Love stand, and although I was somewhat drunk, I think she is the most genuine person that ran in the elections!
I'm quite glad she got elected - hopefully she'll keep the work up and be an example for future execs!
Emma walls, from what i can see the are more people on this site promoting laura than slating her... some even clearly state laura hawthorne ASIDE, the others are complete losers, however you seem to have no problem with the stick the other officers are getting! Obviously laura is a friend of yours and you are on here to defend her, but the double standards you are showing is amazing. Each sab officer is open to criticism on this site and i would suggest that laura has come in for the least out of the lot!
Plus I don't really think its fair to tar each poster with an opinion against laura as being from the law soc or gaa.
Whoa. im a lawsociety member and gaa member and i can tell u that the people who are attacking laura could not be law society members as law society members have a life. These people obviously do not and so spend their time attacking sumone they have probably never sat down and talked to. Cut it out...all of YIS!!!
Laura Hawthrone is a nobody! She is an airhead who, like her big bud from Londonderry Helferty thinks she can save the world and turn us all into amnesty (terrorist) internation liberals.
She needs to grow up and stop living in Helferty's shadow at this rate she is going to be worse than Alex Hobson - and that is saying something!
What has happened the gown? It's blogged down in serious issues. You need to find the balance again between comedy and serious stories! I used to love this magazine!
the law soc has taken most of the seats - here is to a year of drinking and free gigs!! yoohoo

ReplyDeleteI definately think you should include Laura Hawthorne in your comment!
ReplyDeleteShe makes the current SCA officer look half-sensible.
is there a full list of results including, figures as the list on the qubsu website has some exceptions ?

Votey mc votus = are you andrew in disguise...?!
ReplyDeleteThis is the real Benedict Martin. Some joe beg posted comments claiming to be from me. They were not. That is all.
ReplyDeleteLets be honest, Gordon was better for the post than Murphy. But Murphy could all surprise us and become a communication genius!

LOL
ReplyDeletewhat a strange executive
Call in with your new Law Soc/GAA sabbatical officers and get a pint of beer and a feg!
Call in with Helferty and get some hyperactivating Red Bull
Call in a see Laura Hawthorne for a......cup of tea, biscuit and a "..so are you saved yet?" CU session
Call in with Shane Brogan and....get advice on personality bypasses
2 members of the Law Society and 3 guys who play GAA. What the hell is ppls problem with that?
ReplyDeleteLets see. If other ppl were elected would we have discussed things in as much detail -
"Oh no! Theres these 2 guys who enjoy swimming and a girl who occasionally reads fiction novels in the executive". Shock Horror...
There are actually only two law soc members, and two GAA members... I don't see what the problem is
ReplyDeleteThe treatment of Laura Hawthorne on this blog by some law society/GAA posters is a disgrace.
ReplyDeleteIf I were her I wouldn't evenc ommunicate with them on the exec next year. What do they no about the job??

"Mark", aka Thomas Hogg!
ReplyDeleteAlex Hobson was good enough to beat you in the elections last year...
Mark = Sharon Simpson
ReplyDelete"whine yer 'nake 'n"
The queen at queens. thomas hogg will be an excited boy today!
ReplyDelete"anonymous"
ReplyDeleteYou left out the apostrophe in Queen's. Maybe you should focus more on your use of the English language than the mental state of Thomas Hogg.
But yes, I bet it did tickle his tiara.

Nice aliteration there in that end phrase. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteAidan,
