Signing off for '07

We would like to inform all our 'posters' that The Gown blog will be taking a break over this Holiday Season to relax, unwind and mentally prepare for another 'colourful' year of blogging in 2008.

Thanks to all who have visited, read and commented (constructively) - we will return in '08 with a renewed spirit of dedication to uncover the major stories affecting us all in Belfast and beyond.

For now, let's remember 2007 as a year of love (eh Ian and Marty?), laughs (as before) and most importantly lollipops!

Season's Greetings from The Gown team.

Does anyone else think that thomas should shut the hell up?

We all know that you, or one of your stooges (ms simpson perhaps, or the glorious hanna) are the one who are responsable for pretty ,much all the comments attacking michael or john or michál, so why not just shut up and give us all a break.

Just thought I would check out the blog Gown Team...and what a surprise to see that a pseudo Jeremy Paxman has already posted! Well...I agree sir!

Pissed off reader,

The fact that you yourself don't put a name to your comment puts yourself on the same level as those you claim are putting up multiple comments.

In general the Gown needs to check the authenticity of comments being mounted onto the website. After all is that not the reason for having comment moderation?

Who cares about the petty Exec/DUA/Alliance/SF squabling?

The fact is most students still don't know who the SU president or executive officers are.

A total disgrace.

1/10/2008 12:23 am

I hear the DUA are running along with Ciarnan Helferty in the sabbatical elections.

Is it only me, or does anyone else find it hilarious how important some people with students union politics are?

-John Roger
-Ciarnan Helferty
-Thomas Hogg
-Michael Shilliday
-Michal Harkin

Would it also shock you that none of these people are women???

Typical of the sort of people we have in positions within our SU.

It seems like there is only one sabb officer who has done anything this year anyway! And she has something to show for her time in office!!

Disgusted Female Student aka Ms Sarah McCaffery very clever writing in the run up to the opening of the Sabbatical Officers election nominations anyone would think you were trying to use the down trodden damsel in destress card to get elected as President!!!

Gonna be a tough choice for the voter a pro gay rights president who got in on the CU ticket looking for re election or a power hungry left wing feminist.

1/12/2008 3:22 pm

Disgusted female student makes a very vslid point.

Not only is Sarah Mc Caffrey the only female sabbatical officer but she is the only one doing any work. She should run fore president.

1/12/2008 6:16 pm

Now dear, I wouldn't describe Michael Shilliday as "important"....

typical feminist rant. make a valid point about under-representation of women, then ruin it with a misandrist comment implying men are useless.

anyway, officers are not chosen by some sexist pig in an office. they are the result of a free election among students. thats democracy. you cannot just appoint token officers.

furthermore, where is the equality in havin a women's officer but not a men's officer?

Things certainly seem to be heating up in the presidential campaign.

Who will it be?

Rogers, Helferty or McCaffrey???

non-hysterical male student

aka John Roger!!!!

Someone scared of Sarah Eh?!!!!

Just because one sabbatical is working her ass off and showing everyone else up for what they are!!!!!!!

Roll on the sabb elections!!!

Well done to Sarah for the e-mail she sent round to all councillors appealing for more female students to run for sabbs!!!!!!!

1/14/2008 4:40 am
Anonymous Anonymous said...

JOHN RODGER?! why don't you just kill me and spit on my grave while you are at it? i've no time for his left wing nonsense.

anyway, it is good that sarah is trying to encourage more female sabb officers, because more candidates can only mean current officers and candidates have to up their performances.

all due respect to sarah, she earned her place, i am just just against the idea of token female officers who are there solely because of their gender.

as a believer in democracy i will support whoever wins the election, male or female. can you feminists say the same?

1/15/2008 2:56 pm

It's a pity Sarah McCaffery wouldn't get over this "get more women into union politics" BIG DEAL!!!! If someone wants to stand for election for Council or even a Sabb or Non Sabb post does it really matter on the gender? Seems a little coincidental that this feminist rant is occurring in the run up to the Sabb elections - are the rumours true Sarah running for President? ! ? !

If a sabbatical officer has something to say about 1 of there collegues work then why dont they say it to there face instead of attacking them under silly names on the gown.

Basically - Grow up John and Ciarnan!!!

1/16/2008 12:29 am
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why doesn't Sarah organise a public debate in the Students' Union to take on John or Ciarnan inside of attacking them on the Gown?

1/17/2008 1:50 pm

no wonder the su mag is in such a dire state. it's "their", dear

1/17/2008 3:15 pm

Maybe Sarah doesn't have to "mobilise" or have protests or rallies everytime there is a debate to be had!

Grow up amnesty freak...

1/19/2008 2:14 am
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Goodness I wouldn't like to get caught in a row between Sarah, John and Ciarnan on the 2nd floor or the students union!!!

Where do Michal and Steffan stand in this row? Or are they even capable of formulating opinions?

Hey HEY HEY,,,

Enough of these rants posted under the fine name of Amnesty,,,

I very much doubt anyone in our society gives an orse about squabbles on the second floor.

Plus on behalf of the society i'd like to say we like "Alliance do gooders"
so amnesty guy is not the real thing,,, In fact i bet he doesnt even eat hummus or wear open toe'd footwear!!

And its important to point out no one has used terms like "mobilise" since the black panthers,,, and COME ONNNNNNN Qub mag photoman/woman,,, ya gotta love a good old fashioned protest.

You're welcome on the next one.

AS I've graced these forums before, i would like to enquire qhether anyone else has suffered gusset anxiety from the inferior quality of MArks and Sparks undergarments. As the sabatical officers are always talking balls i would be interested to know if this problem affected them??

the deadline for results has passed and 1st year accountancy students have still not received their results. all we have got is an email informing us that we would have them late tomorrow evening "at the earliest". our tutorial groups for a group assignment has been split into groups based on last semester's results, so they have definitely been marked for a long time. does anyone else find this unacceptable, considering the consequences if we flippantly disregarded deadlines.

Why do SU mag seem obsessed with the Gown people slagging them. If they want to be journalists then why the hell are they writing for SU magazine which has only started up this year? Employers of journalists won't have heard of SU mag. duh.
