Lucky Dip Council Meeting!

Tonight there will be a Student Council meeting in the Students' Union . In an effort to boost participation, Deputy General Manager, Dominic Doherty, has written to all council members advising them that there will be free refreshments and that those in attendance will also be entered into a prize draw.

The meeting takes place at 6pm in the Snack Bar on the 2nd floor of the Union. If there is not a quorum the meeting cannot take place, and so Mr Doherty is keen to attract as many students as possible.

Apparently the star prize is a gourmet dinner for two at world-renowned Kebab emprioum 'Esperanto's' with popular SU President Ben Preston...

I dunno what it is about losing an Education Election, but Chris Gaskin talked about Mark Dunn's balls, whilst Rodney Gilmour bemoaned the fact his brother is better with his hands than he is. I kid you not.

Hardly, I don't like people using an issue like suicide for an attempt at shit stirring.

I lost a friend last year to suicide and I was disgusted at the UUP attempt to bring party politics and the Hunger Strikers into the issue.

Gutless cretins!

We've all lost friends to sucuide - we don't all glorify hunger strikers. Well done the UUP group.

I feel that the students union did the right thing to throw a gathering of young republican to support and glorify a so called man who killed himself.

I believe that Sinn Fein need to come to there senses and question how they can support anti suicide policy but at the same time glorify terrorists such as bobby sands who committed suicide. Its similar to encouraging people not to speed but giving them a fomurla 1 car to drive in.

I think the Students Union Excecutive were right not to support anything which supports suicide no matter what political side they swing from.

The free sandwiches were good but a 4 course sit down dinner and free wine and i would maybe have been inclined to debate more......but then again alot of the people who do talk talk crap! Its time to start fighting for the students and not worry about the constitutional issue's all the time. lets get real!

Reading this thread is exactly the reason why forum is NOT met at our students council. I have attended University in Edinburgh where ´REAL´issues are dealt with, perhaps you should check out a few of the minutes from our fellow students across the water to see how a students union SHOULD be run. It should be for the benefirto of the students, not a mini mirror-image of Stormont, a complete slagging match and waste of time , full of bigots obviously raised on the sectarian drivel that holds this country back...
By the way DAVID, I would check out your facts! Were you REALLY the only one from LSES who attended every meeting?Im in your class and I KNOW thats not true...

You might find Mr Scots man that I also was on council last year and David was at every council meeting!! Could you be a bit more specific on the type of issues that are discussed as I would be interested.

I thought I was the only one from LSES stage 2 present but having checked the attendance record available at http://www.qubsu.org/documents I see that everyone else in LSES missed at least one council meeting. Whilst not proving that I attended every meeting this coupled with the evidence offered by the Spy and a thorough examination of all council minute meetings will show that I did infact attend all meetings. So next time out you may want to get YOUR facts straight annoymous
