Legal Eagle's Favour Forde

Michael Forde has won the contest for Vice President Education. In what was a hotly fought contest, Mr Forde edged ahead, making this Mr Gaskin's final term in student office. Mr Gaskin played down republican credentials in campaigning, and he may now wonder if this was the right approach. Mr Forde, a classmate of Mr Gaskin and Chairman of the Queen's Law Society, got his vote out on the day and will take on the Education portfolio.

Why did Gaskin not pull in his usual support? Where did Forde's vote come from.

Mr Gaskin did no such thing!!!

I stood as a canditate for V.P Education, I stood on student issues.

My politics is well know, this blog has already admitted as such.

Why did Gaskin not pull in his usual support?

I did, 530 odd votes would have won a V.P election any other year. a lot of Mr Fordes votes would have went to me had he not been standing in education.

Such is life however

I will leave QUB with my head held high in the sure knowledge that I have never compromised my beliefs or integrity in the pursuit of office.

I would prefer to fall with my integrity, honour and values in tact and not for sale to the highest bidder.

Best of luck Mickey, you fought a good campaign.

The way I see mr gaskin sold himself and his party down the river, he tried to pull on bens shirt tail and it has failed. I think Ben has stiched gaskin up real good.

Also may I add that a smart move by the DUA to stay out of the elections has allowed other candidates to blow IRA\ sinn Fein out of the water
May I also add how pleased i am to see the end of republican setiment in student elections and that real students fighting for real issues have won on the day. Horahh fof the Union

How so???????

he tried to pull on bens shirt tail and it has failed

I did no such thing so it couldn't have failed.

Which canditate had Ben's name on their posters?

It was DUP canditates, not me!

The only names on my posters were those of my running mates.

All my election team were Sinn Féin

Also may I add that a smart move by the DUA to stay out of the elections

The DUA didn't stay out of any election, their canditates were trounced!

I think Ben has stiched gaskin up real good.

How so?

i am to see the end of republican setiment in student elections

Like the phoenix, we shall rise from the ashes. There is other elections in May.

It's a rare occasion but it happens once in a blue moon that I agree with Mr Gaskin. What the hell have "republican credentials" got to do with an election for student council?

Oh and the "Votail Gaskin" posters featruing Mr Gaskin in a GAA top were really hiding his background. Sinister or what!

Very simple chris, you tried to play democratic politics, and your party was not happy- dont deny it because we all know.

It was DUP canditates, not me

I am aware that rod and graham were both independents- the same as Kevin. The DUP had nothing to lose.

Also may I add that a smart move by the DUA to stay out of the elections

I am aware that DUA supported Colin and that Edward Hanna the community officer along with peter and ben had encouraged him for this post from the start of the year. And yes you may be right that they had no candidates but wisley used their votes to keep hard line republicans out

Indeed Beano

My politics are well known in the Union.

Very simple chris, you tried to play democratic politics

I always engage in democratic politics, no change there.

and your party was not happy- dont deny it because we all know.

What complete and utter horse shit!!

My campaign team were all party members, they fought hard for me on election day.

That wouldn't have happenned if they were unhappy with me.

You attempt at stirring shit is very poor indeed.

I am aware that rod and graham were both independents

ROFLMAO!!!

Pull the other one!

I add that a smart move by the DUA to stay out of the elections

They didn't stay out of elections, they were out last week for Barton and Gilmore.

What University do you attend? It can't be QUB!

but wisley used their votes

I think you mean their siege mentality and sectarianism!

No, you just fabricated quotes from Ben on your manifesto instead!!

I did no such thing!

We'll end the siege mentality when they end the siege.

I don't believe for one minute that Mr Gaskin fell out with his party, but he created the impression that he had and, it would seem, managed to convince a few gullible liberals.

I was intrigued to hear that you were distancing yourself from certain motions proposed to council by your Sinn Fein collegues. Perhaps this is where the impression of a division arose?

I was just passing through, but as a former classmate of Chris Gaskin's I feel compelled to write in his defence.

It has been alluded to in this debate that Chris compromised on his principles and integrity during the course of the elcection campaign, and engaged in 'realpolitik' and 'played the political game'. This is not the man I know; while in school, he risked expulsion and the loss of his A-levels in order to uphold what he saw as being right.

I disagree with many of Chris' views but I know the man and his character and as such can safely say that never for one second has he ever compromised on his principles.
