RAG Resurrection
The gradual demise and eventual death of RAG in Queen's over the past number of years has been unfortunate to say the least. With such a large student population availing of all the benefits of one of the best universities in the UK, surely giving something back to those in need is not too much to ask.
You may or may not have noticed the fleeting hints around the Union and beyond that plans to resurrect the society, founded in 1927, are currently underway. The student executive sacrificed the warmth of their cosy offices and ventured into the harsh subzero temperatures of Belfast to venture around the front of Queen's and shake charity boxes at people last week - but at least the Christmas themed outfits looked like pretty good insulation.
Its about time positive steps were taken to officially restore RAG to its former glory. Deputy President, Peter Quinn, has stated that the campaign will be stepped up next semester and the charity stunts will be much cleverer this time round - no more fairy liquid in Castlecourt's water fountain...
A RAG officer will be appointed early in the new year so hopefully next RAG day will be about more than just a day off to head to the nearest bar!

Here here, to quote David Cather from the last council meeting. RAG is one of the best things to ever come out of the union. It is about time an effort was made to resurrect it. Credit has to go to certain member of the executive for that
Where are all the volunteers (excluding the SU Exec)?
Me thinks this is a stunt to boast the Exec, after all they did little last year to see RAG get backon its feet until pushed!
There are numerous volunteers who are not on the exec involved in RAG and we will see big things from them next year.
...The RAG society at queens has nearly 4 - 1 voluteers for each exec... i know this because i am a member myself. They are a small committed group who have really develped RAG this year alongside Peter Quinn, Colin Caugheyand Michael Forde. They have to date reaised a considerable sum of money and have finalised a 2nd semeter timtable on monday...

The RAG that exists today is simply a puppet of the union. For years the exec have had RAG is a sleeper hold, each year withdrawing more and more support. I know, I was a RAG administrator, I was there at its death. The union killed RAG by not supporting us, not letting us hold events in the union and not letting us hold them outside the union either. Catch 22
Rod Martin and Barney (he was manager then)systematically removed every event that RAG used to make money for charity.
i.e. The cloakroom, ticket sales, RAG week, weekly pub quiz etc etc... and the constant censoring of PTQ made it unpopular with the public and it stopped selling.
The exec killed RAG.
The union has been wanting a RAG they can control for years, what they have now is not RAG. It may have the name but not the spirit.
